As thesis/dissertation proposal is critical to thecompletion of thesis/dissertation by graduates, specific provisions onthesis/dissertation proposal of international graduates are made as follows toensure the quality of their theses/dissertations according to SeveralProvisions on Strengthening Management of Degree and Graduate Education ofFujian Medical University (Document No. 169 [2009] of Fujian Medical University) and Provisionson Thesis/Dissertation Proposal of Graduates of Fujian Medical University(Revised) ( Document No. 5 [2013] of Graduate Office of Fujian Medical University)):
I. Time
Thethesis/dissertation proposal of international graduates shall be completed atthe end of the third semester or the beginning of the fourth semester afteradmission and no later than the fourth semester (June of the current year).
II. Prerequisites
1.Completion of A Summary of Thesis/Dissertation;
2.Completion of pre-experiments of research project.
III. Procedures
1. Thethesis/dissertation proposal shall consist of the following: ① Name of the project, student and supervisor; ② thebasis of thesis/dissertation project and domestic and foreign research trendsof the project; ③ objectives, significance and applicationprospect of the project; ④ design plan (including main technicalmethods, test methods or data collection methods, statistical process methodsof the research); ⑤ schedule, expected difficulties andproblems and corresponding measures; ⑥ expectedresults, workload and expenses of the project; ⑦ results ofpre-experiments.
2. Afterthe supervisor reviews and approves the proposal and the summary ofThesis/Dissertation, Thesis/Dissertation Proposal Information Form ofInternational Graduates of Fujian Medical University (i.e., Thesis/DissertationProposal Form in triplicate) shall be downloaded from the “Downloads” ofthe official website of Overseas Education College and then completed andprinted.
3. Threeto five review experts (supervisorexcluded) shall be engaged according to the disciplinesrelated to the project, of whom at least two experts shall be master’ssupervisors and others shall be experts with the title of associate professorsor associate chief physicians and above for master’s thesis proposal; at leasttwo experts shall be doctoral supervisors and others shall be experts with thetitle of professors or chief physicians for doctoral dissertation proposal.Meanwhile, one secretary may be engaged as required by the thesis/dissertationproposal to record the proposal meeting.
4. Allcolleges of the main campus shall timely organize graduates and supervisors topresent thesis/dissertation proposal on a collective basis; other collegesshall collectively present thesis/dissertation proposal by steps based onsubjects or majors.
5.Graduates shall submit thesis/dissertation proposals and the summary ofThesis/Dissertationto experts attending the thesis/dissertation proposalmeeting a week before the proposal meeting and prepare related materials used inprojectors or multimedia devices for the meeting as well.
6. Thesecretary shall record experts’ questions and graduates’ answers in Thesis/DissertationInformation Form in the meeting and ask experts to write down theircomments of the proposal and sign for confirmation at the end of the meeting.
7. Afterthe thesis/dissertation proposal meeting, graduates shall submit Thesis/DissertationProposal Information Form, Thesis/Dissertation Proposal and ASummary of Thesis/Dissertation to the Graduate Management Department of thesupervisor’s college in triplicate for review and stamping. Graduates shallalso retain a copy of these documents, give such documents to experts forreview during the thesis/dissertation defense and submit the documents toOverseas Education College together with application documents for degrees after thesisdefense.
8. TheGraduate Management Department of each college shall collect one copy of Thesis/DissertationProposal Information Form, Thesis/Dissertation Proposal and ASummary of Thesis/Dissertation of the international graduates and submitthese documents to Overseas Education College for filing before the end of Juneeach year.
IV. Other Relevant Requirements
1. Thethesis/dissertation proposal shall be presented by all international studentswithin the stipulated time. The thesis/dissertation defense of students whopresent overdue proposals shall be postponed.
2. Thethesis/dissertation proposal shall be publicly presented and relevantinformation shall be publicly announced in advance.
3. Thethesis/dissertation proposal and the summary of Thesis/Dissertation shall be duplex printed on A4 paper withtitle in boldface, size 16 and the rest part in Song typeface, size 12, andshall be smooth in sentences, clear in diagrams with strong logicality.
4. Afterthe thesis/dissertation proposal is approved, graduates shall immediatelycomplete the “Thesis/Dissertation Proposal” form and the Project Schedule in Training Manual under the guidance ofsupervisors.
5. Ifthe thesis/dissertation proposal fails to be approved, graduates shall decide anew project as soon as possible and present the proposal according to the aboverequirements under the guidance of supervisors. The range from the approval dateof thesis/dissertation proposal to the date of the thesis/dissertation defense shall beat least one year.
6.Students who want to alter research directions or contents in formal experimentand research process after their thesis/dissertation proposals are approvedshall re-present proposals and go through the procedures and submit relevantdocuments to the Graduate Management Department of the college and OverseasEducation College for filing.
7. TheseProvisions will take effect upon the release date and shall be interpreted byOverseas Education College.
